Does the Qur'an and the Bible speak of the same God?
- Monday, 19 April 2010
The Bible says God is "the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost and these three are one" (1 John 5:7).
The Bible says God has a Son "For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace." (Isaiah 9:6) The Bible says Jesus is God's only begotten Son "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." (John 3:16).
The Bible says God is a Saviour "Tell ye, and bring them near; yea, let them take counsel together: who hath declared this from ancient time? who hath told it from that time? have not I the LORD? and there is no God else beside me; a just God and a Saviour; there is none beside me." (Isaiah 45:21).
However, the Qur'an says the opposite. The Qur'an says Allah is Al-Wahid. Allah has said, "And your Lord is One (and Only) Lord! There is no god but He" (2:163). "Say: He, Allah, is One" (112:1). Yes, God is one and there is no god but He. However, the Qur'an denies the Godhead of the Father, Word, and Holy Ghost as being the one God.
The Qur'an says Jesus is just a prophet. He is not the Son of God because Allah has no son "He begets not, nor is He begotten." (112:3).
The Qur'an does not mention Allah as a Savior. In fact, the Qur'an says "The day on which you will turn back retreating; there shall be no savior for you from Allah, and whomsoever Allah causes to err, there is no guide for him:" (40:33). Savior is not one of the 99 attributes of Allah.
If Allah and the God of the Bible were one in the same they would have the same message and qualities. But they do not. Therefore, the God of the Bible and Allah of the Qur'an are not the same.
