MS IMO have made their move until way into 2010. As for Live fees, no way they are going to drop them. MS has 2 options. Price drop again or somehow come out with something revolutionary like Natal.

The price drop in 2008 barely raised an extra 100k-200k units for 2 quarters.

I own both Xbox elite and ps3. Compared Killzone 2 is so much smoother than halo 3. Then I did the comparison gran turismo 5 prologue vs my forza 2 beyond pixelated forza 2. The compression is so evident.

Blu-ray, Free online gaming, Amazing exclusive titles coming up compared to the Xbox, a web browser, Folding@Home (Which is pretty great if you like to help researching), HDMI 1.3 and with the Firmware 3.0 coming out soon the PSN expirience is gonna be further enhanced as well as the updates to come.
Of course there's always the arcade and pro Xbox, but I wouldn't dare compare those to the PS3 "slim".

Ive own both systems and only thing i can honeslty say about xbox that is better id say it the dashboard, seems more user friendly and eye catchie, ps3 has a more subtle clean cut look (kinda for more mature gamer) and it has a couple of feature ps3 doesnt have like cross chat but honestly i havent seen any game that is better than any ps3, halo did sell alot and i did own it but it was just hyped by the gamers, gears looked very promising but it felt kinda dry and short imo....to Sony Guy - Year of the Playstation...only reason it the ps3 hasnt sold alot with mgs4, lbp,kz2, etc is because the price was still too high, shit i would pick a 360 over a ps3 on price alone but the games and famous RED RING and all the nicle and dime going on id rather drop it on a ps3

First off, lets compare the two companies: Microsoft and Sony. Microsoft is, at its core, a software company. Windows/DOS is hands down the most popular software ever created and has made Microsoft into the giant that it is today. On top of that, their move into the game console world back in our very, very, ealy new millennium has only given them more of a reputation. Microsoft has done things pretty damn well over the past 10 year. Sure there are mistakes, but if they were seriously that bad, then the ammount of Xbox owners would, of course, be extrememly lower. With the whole Red Rings of Death issue, I have only one thing to say. 54% of all 360 owners have not had their systems fail. Didnt the survey only confy to like 5,000 people? When there are how many owners of the 360?? Chances are that the number could be higher or lower, but that 54% is not an absolute accurate percentage. Another thing, now that im on a typing-spree, hardware failure is nothing new. If someone has any real use of a computer than they have had many hardware failures. I've had 1,000 times more hard drives die on my than i have had xbox failures. My first xbox that I bought back in 2005 died in late 2008. Microsoft repaired it for free and it only took 2 weeks, after i sent it in, to get a new one. Believe me, a person has an actual life, and goes to work, socializes with friends, and go OUTSIDE and have fun, then you can live withought an xbox for 2 weeks... The point I was originally trying to make is that all electrical components tend to overheat. It just happens, and especially when your pumping that much power through them.

Before Microsoft jumped on the console bandwaggon, there was the colossal Sony. Sony is most popularly known for the creation of our great Playstation game console. But thats mainly it, can you ever overhear people talking about Sony in a respect other than something involving Playstation? Yeah, I never have either. Sure, they make TV's, and build a line of computers(That run Windows hahahaha, owned), etc..., but I cant talk to any of my not-so-tech-savvy friends about Sony unless it regards Playstation. I used to be a big sony fan years ago, and I've only owned one Playstation and one Playstation 2. Never got the slim versions. My main sony fan years were the years of the Playstation. When the Xbox and Playstation 2 came out, I favored the Xbox. That was just my personal choice, I felt fps games worked better on the Xbox and Halo is certainly to blame. Then came the years of Xbox 360 and Playstation 3. I was dead set on getting an the xbox because the original xbox grew me into a huge Microsoft fan. I originally was a huge Microsoft fan, but not in the game console world, just in the software world. Now that Micrsoft has my heart in game console and software, Im pretty much a follower through and through. Microsoft made their console affordable and fun. Which is the key to any consumer. Not to mention a full year head start over the Playstation 3. Even when the PS3 was released, I couldnt afford the damn thing. $500 for the console!? Yeah... screw that. There was no way in hell I was about to fork over half a grand for a game console a year after I just bought a $400 funbox. On top of that, they had an even MORE expensive bundle that was basically just another controller, i think, and 20Gb more hard drive space. FOR $600!!!!???? That is the most outrageous price for a gaming console I have ever seen. Sure, you can say "lay off PS3! PC's can range up to $2,000!!!!" Exactly that, "can range" as in you can buy a dooky PC with dooky hardware for $300 or a warrior PC with warrior hardware for $2,000. Hell my computer that I built has damn good hardware, and I built it for like $500. Anyway, Im just trying to say that Sony put too much into their Playstation 3 and charged way too much. If I were them, I woulda ditched the built-in wifi. Majority of consumers dont use wireless connections in their home, and wireless cant perform shit to cat5e ethernet and a gigabit router/switch. Sony tried the "Pay a ma*sive ammount for everything in one" approach, which killed them. Microsoft chose the right path, leave the general crap alone, and make the extra stuff, that only some people use, just that: extra. You want wireless? Okay, here is an adapter. Micrsofts only true loss was the format war. Blu-ray won. HDDVD lost. And I fear Microsoft will have too big of an ego to adapt Blu-ray. Sony's PS3 is the best blu-ray player on the market, and I hope Micrsoft doesnt think that they will get hara*sed for adapting blu-ray in the future. Blu-ray is definitely our next generation DVD format. After that generation there is a slim chance of a brand new format that was just created that stores 500Gb of data on one dvd instead of 50Gb like blu-ray. But we might never need any form of dics by the 2nd or 3rd next generation, because there is now a Research and Developement of a 50Tb flash drive...... 50 freaking Terabytes!!!!!! If stuff like this becomes affordable, our gaming consoles will never have a disc tray, just Terabytes of hard drive space. We just need the connection speed that can download faster than the current mainstream 1Mb/s. If I did my math right, than a 50Gb game downloading at a mere 1Mb/s would take 15 hours. But downloading at 10Mb/s would only take 1.5 hours, of course. So hopefully fiber optic cabling becomes mainstream in the near future. Or huge advancements in the ethernet cables. Enough about this junk, I want to about games

Lets talk about Exclusives. Sony fans keep the rage on the whole "its not an exclusive if the game also comes out for the PC!!" Every time I read/hear this comment, I want to slap that person. Micrsoft owns Xbox, Microsoft owns Windows. If a game is coming out for Xbox and Windows then how in the hell is it not an exclusive? "Ok its a Microsoft exclusive, but that doesnt make it count as an Xbox exclusive!", says the PS3 fan. Well Sony and Nin dont get the game on their console do they? Nope. So out of the 3 game consoles, the game is available for 1. Is a PC a game console? No. Pc's have a million more uses other than just watching a movie or playing a game. It can be a device to play a game if you choose that method. But few PC's are designed head to toe to play a video game. Those that are, we call them Playstation 3, Xbox 360, and Nintendo Wii.

First of all the PS3 isnt doing bad at all for being one year behind mircrosoft it is actually acceling over it in sales for its rate of selling. Even if microsoft responds that won't do anything after sony called their price cut to 300 it made the game that much closer an caused more of a competition rather than microsoft just thinking there high an mighty. You also have to look at microsoft an if they respond with there price cut there losing even more money on there system then they should. The fact is both systems need the competition to stay alive an microsoft doesnt have much to show for games of the future I know they have Halo 3 ODST BUT that is a continuation of HALO3 which came out back in 2007 they are showing nothing for creativity but showing the old games over an over. As you can see with the words above sony has decided to keep the PS2 on for a ten year life span so who ever said sony was forgetting the past think again. second off the Xbox gave birth to the multilayer experience sure you have to pay 50$ bucks a year but from personal experience i have less problems online than i do for the PS3. I was playing kill zone 2 (which by the way is a vary nice looking shooter) when the three guys on my team deiced to leave there game on while they were gone which is just three easy kills for the other team. that made us lose(shity beans)I just feel the Xbox has a more streamlined online experience. but the main reason we buy the system we do is because of games, games drive console sales, because of this company's try new things Ex the Wii, and to all those anti Halo 3 people it has sold more than 10 mil copy's which is this next gens best selling exclusive title. Also i have both my launch day xbox 360's one had RED RING OF DEATH but Microsoft was quick to fix it and ship me off another one FOR FREE!!! while i had my PS3 crap out on me here 2 weeks ago i had to pay to dens it in and pay for them to replace it so i said f*ck that i'am going to buy your new PlayStation slim. At the end of the day, im a consumer, not a Microsoft or Sony shareholder so why should more consumer choice impact me in a negative way?

I dont want any of the systems to be the outright winner. Ideally i would want all games to be cross platform and all systems to end up equal when it comes to the next round. I would hate to see one of the big two pull out of the next gen race because that only spells disaster for the consumer. Imagine if there was only sony? There would be no price war, no consumers voicing their desire for cheaper prices by siding with the competition. It would be a disaster and its not what we want to see.

It's funny to see microsoft fanboys disguised as bloggers and journalists scrambling like the RAF when London was under attack to try and downplay the effect of the PS3 slim and the Sony price cuts on the market.
Though, you forget a few basic notions of marketing. There's a limit to how much price cuts can really affect sales. The more you cut a price, the more such effect is dampened, given that many have already bought the product with the previous price cuts.
On top of it, after a product gets under the maximum acceptable price point, the competition moves away from the price and features get more important. Before the 360 was under such point and the PS3 wasn't (at least for many potential customers). Now they're both under that price, and the competition field will shift from price to features. Unfortunately for microsoft, the 360, while still being a very valid console, lags behind by a lot features-wise, with the PS3 offering much more bang for the buck out of the box.

Will the PS3 Slim "kill" the 360? No. Like the 360 didn't "kill" the PS3 up until now. Will it outsell it regularly month per month for a while? That's very possible. Will the PS3 be in second and the 360 in third at the end of this generation? Did YOU read the article? It's stating that MS selling cheaper than Sony will automatically win the battle for them. That's either biased or ignorant, since it ignores how price cuts work and how features become more important then price when the price falls under the maximum acceptable threshold.

Microsoft not being dumb doesn't mean they automatically can keep the upper hand, that's what market competition is.

They already juiced as much as they could from price cuts, and while they can and will issue further price cuts, it doesn't mean that that will automatically give them an advantage over the competition like this article states. I really cannot explain it simpler than that, so if you can't understand it, it's your problem.

If price was the only decision point in the market, then only companies with the lowest price ranges would survive. This is not the case, of course.

This isn't about xbox vs. ps3 for me. This is about who is delivering quality products at a fair price versus who is fleecing and lying to the public. Inferior products that are rushed to market simply to trump the "other guy" will always make problems for any industry. It's not just video games. It's particularly diabolical when it takes forever for the company to even admit there's a problem. To me, the RRoD problem has gotten ENOUGH press, because MS tries so hard to gloss over it and hope you don't care. The RRoD problem is NOT over. People are still getting them, even with the Jaspers. MS may have extended the warranty, but if I am a customer, that's not enough for me. And it shouldn't be.

The point is that the xbox360 has been demolishing the ps3 in sales since it came out. I work as a QA in the games industry so i play all consoles and PC, so i'm not going to get drawn into a circular argument. I own all of the gaming consoles, wii 360 ps3 and many of their forerunners, At first i did play my 360 alot, this was quickly changed by my wii and then by the back compatibility on my mk1 ps3.
Whilst playing forza 2 i got my first red light of doom exactly one day after the warranty expired, by comparison my mk1 ps3 still works (2 years after warranty)
As for games, xbox holds that advantage currently but it's lack of large optical media will hurt it in the coming years.
Online play is generally the same on both consoles lag being more attributed to the time of day (eg between 5.30pm to 7pm every comes back from work and checks their emails at the same time slowing the internet for everyone) and how close you are to your exchange.
And finally gamerscore/trophies who cares, i play for leaderboards.

PS3 slim will out sale XBOX 360 this year and 2010 so 360 fanboys shut the f*ck up.

PS3 is getting better exclusives, and XBOX 360 exclusives 90% of them are on PC so its not really exclusive anymore.
