I'm getting sick of this. Is it or isn't it? Yeah, Bioware said it would be on 360 and PC only, but how many times have they tried to put the toothpaste back into the tube after their own people started the rumors?
This is an disservice to all the gamers that this is allowed to go on. And to those like IGN who think that the rumor was killed because of them saying this, remember that they were trying to say the same thing about the first Mass Effect being made for the PC, and they have said the same thing about past rumors about ME2 going to the PS3.
This is a disservice because it tells the gamers that they should wait until something definite is said about whether or not the rumors are true. Those PS3 only gamers that want Mass Effect would hold off on buying a 360 until there's something definite. Those that own both but prefer the PS3 more (as in, the PS3 gets more of their gaming time) hold off on buying the 360 or PC versions before knowing. They don't know where to spend their money, and that makes it tough on us gamers, and that makes me both nauseous and fuming about not only the developers, but also the people who are covering this story.
People bitch all the time about the smaller blogs that post “flame bait” articles. While I understand sometimes that blogs try to get hits from garbage articles, this site is not one of them. We mean what we say here on Neocrisis (even though not all of us on this site agree with each other on viewpoints sometimes), and we mean what we say that we say that Bioware needs to stop playing us. This wouldn't be as suspicious as it was if it wasn't for them trying to kill rumors in the past only for the rumors to come back, most of the time from their own people. “Possibly PS3”? If you didn't mean it that way, Bioware (and for that matter, EA), then what DID you mean by that? Did you lie to us?
Did you want some more money from Microsoft to make it exclusive to their platforms (remember that the PC version COULD be “Games for Windows”, after all)? Did you misspeak, because we heard (and understood you) loud and clear. Did you use code words? What is this, because we're sick to death of having to continue to call you guys out. You're not being funny or cute. This is a ploy to get more money out of the original Mass Effect on the platforms before you bring it out on the PS3.
And to those that think “well, Bioware made it official, for good,” well, they made it “official for good” before. When rumors of the PC version of ME came out, what did Bioware originally try to say? You got it: that it wasn't coming. Only a few months later, if even that, it happened. And they were “definite” then, as well. When the first rumors about Mass Effect 2 on the PS3 began popping up earlier this year, they came from sources inside EA. They have tried to kill them, too. So don't go thinking that this rumor is dead just yet. Or at least as dead as some sites would want you to think.
And what about these sites who are just taking devs word for it again? Have they NOT given you any red flags yet, or are they hiding behind NDA's again and preventing you from doing your damn jobs? Did the Kotaku thing with Home scare you? Yes, Kotaku was dead wrong in doing what they did to Sony, but it's not like that kind of thing shouldn't happen at any time. Unlike Sony, Bioware is trying to play the gamers, and you have the responsibility to say the truth or get the truth out of them. Plus, they've said this before, and now they have done this again, and you try to tell us that this rumor is dead, especially after Bioware begins to be very friendly towards the PS3 with Dragon Age and them saying that they could port it and EA being multiplatform friendly, along with Bioware first saying "no comment" to the very rumor they later tried to kill? Give me a break!
Of course, we gamers know better, and when Bioware tries to put the toothpaste back into the tube, we're going to know that they are playing us. They really need to stop this, or we're not going to be buying ANY ME game, regardless of platform, to spite them. Tough love for Bioware, definitly.
