| The recent debacle over Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’s lack of dedicated servers has many PC gamers up in arms. The question is should the console gamers join in the boycott?
Infinity Ward and Activision first started the Call of Duty franchise on PC so it’s understandable that they would be pissed about not having mod tools or dedicated servers, but console gamers have never had to worry about either so their experience with it will be unscathed. So, why should console gamers care? I’ll be the first to admit I have MW2 pre-ordered (hardened edition) but the more I hear about this title the less I want it, and shouldn’t that be the other way around?
We all know that Activision is trying to cash in; otherwise Treyarch would never have got their hands on the franchise in the first place and would’ve stuck to making Spiderman games. I don’t believe that this is in Infinity Ward’s hands; the safe bet is that Activision is trying to make A LOT while spending very little, but we can’t punish Activision without harming a very great development house. Another thing that worries me is that while there was a recent price hike on the game I’m sure many people will buy the game no matter what. So, in the process we’ll be telling Activision it’s ok to take shortcuts in game development, its fine by us if they raise game prices, and also hey we don’t care if you leave the very fans behind that made your game a hit in the first place.
Just look at what Activision is doing to the Guitar Hero franchise. What’s the point in putting a lot of work into a game if it will still sell like crazy with the least amount of effort? The sad thing is that we (gamers) have allowed this to carry on without putting our foot down. Yes, they’re a huge multi-billion dollar company and one person won’t make a difference, but as a whole, as a unified voice we can put an end to this madness. After all, we are the one’s paying them. Without us their broke, their weak, and they would be forced into changing they’re ways.
In all honesty I really don’t want to not buy this game, and maybe I alone won’t change the gaming landscape, but WE can. I am going to take my pre-order and just buy Borderlands. Yes, it may not be the triple A game that I’m sure Modern Warfare 2 will be, but I will feel a lot better knowing that I tried that I wasn’t too weak to fight back, and that maybe my decision may affect others to follow suit.

After playing Uncharted 2 I’m pretty sure that I’ll be just fine without Activision stealing my wallet, but if you’d happily give them yours that’s your business. Just so you know that’s why PC gamers hate console gamers it’s not about the games being better for this one or that one it’s that we’re all ignorant, selfish, assholes who never care about the other guy being crapped on as long as we get what we need (myself include sometimes) but whether you realize it now or not the outcome of this WILL affect us all.
No matter if you’re a fan of consoles or PC’s if Activision keeps getting away with this by next year we’ll be paying 80.00 dollars for games instead of 60.00, or paying just as much for a special edition of a game as THE CONSOLE ITSELF. I have asked myself if there was any other way, and honestly even if there was dedicated servers and mod tools for the PC Activision still needs to be taught a lesson in proper manners. Ask yourself this question; do you really want to line the pockets of Bobby Kotick?
Yeah, I didn’t think so.

But honestly, this is the fault of gamers who rewarded them by buying every Guitar Hero even though it was just the same ol' same ol', and they also rewarded Act. by buying W@W in droves when it was just more of the same ol' same ol'. And no one was willing to admit it was just the same ol'. It was reviewed highly, with no mention of how the series hasn't progressed, and reviewer will be just as kind with MW2, even though it's STILL just more of the same...ju...
