EDGE thinks gamers are stupid
- Thursday, 18 February 2010
Recent PS3 exclusives like Killzone 2 and Infamous were received surprisingly bad over at Edge while an Xbox 360 expansion (Halo ODST) received a 9/10, a very good score for an expansion pack. The question you must ask yourself here is exactly how horrid did they believe Killzone 2 and Infamous was that they didn’t even add up to a four hour Halo add-on. Mind you Killzone 2 received a 7/10. Two full points below Halo that was built on a tweaked last-gen engine. Something smells fishy, right? With a huge and expansive multiplayer suite, great graphics, a more comprehensible story, and tight gameplay that dared to innovate (taking cover in a FPS) how could this happen?
Even more laughable is the fact that when a game releases on Microsofts console as an exclusive it receives higher marks, then it goes multiplatform and dang would you look at that it isn’t as good as its Xbox counterpart. Example below:
All quotes taken from Metacritic
Xbox 360 Ninja Gaiden 2 Review 8/10
Ninja Gaiden II is a fascinating and hugely replayable game that shows Team Ninja has a gift beyond the vast majority of developers in that genre. [Aug 2008, p.92]
PS3 Ninja Gaiden sigma 2 Review 7/10
When you're playing a Ninja Gaiden game and not dying until the eighth chapter, it doesn't bode well for the future of the series as we know it. Oh, and the camera's still rubbish. [Nov 2009, p.100]
With its co-op and extra mission available on the PS3 version how could this be. Wait, I’m starting to see a trend here. PS3 games just aren’t liked around the EDGE offices. If they are then why does almost all PS3 exclusives receive a 7/10 or lower? Please keep in mind that Ninja Gaiden 2 on the PS3 has a two point lead on its XBOX competitor on Metacritic. So most reviewers saw it as a step up for the series. In its reviews of Ninja Gaiden 2 EDGE seems to contradict itself in both quotes, couldn’t they just come out and say they are biased? Well no, they seem to use every opportunity to slam the PS3 and in the same stroke praise the XBOX 360 although it hasn’t released half as many notable titles last year (Mass Effect 2 excluded). Either that or maybe they just didn’t think gamers were smart enough to catch on.
The sad thing is it hurts them more so than helping them. Gamers use their reviews more as something to laugh at more so than to extract reliable information. Well, this is for you EDGE quit writing misleading reviews because gamers aren’t as ignorant as you think and we’ve been watching and laughing for quite some time now.

you have never read any of their reviews, have you?
reviews are there to be READ, not just to look at the score than yell fan boy from the roof of the school cafeteria.the exclusive reviews i cant explain, it certainly is BS that halo ODST gets a higher review than killzone 2 but your taking this a little too personally.
remember reviews are opinion, and just like a body everyone has one.as for ninja gaiden sigma 2 thats just silly, IF you bothered to read their review you would understand why they gave it a lower score than NG2.
reason was that
1 it came out a year and a half later than NG2 but fixed NONE! of its issues, like the camera they constantly nag.2 they removed half the bloody game, the best boss battle was removed. WTF?
3 they took out all the gore, big woop BUT they replaced it with blue mist its so out of place.
its like playing the sims, being handed a ice cream cone and your head explodes from the brain freeze.
its just so out of place, if you want to remove the gore fine but dont replace it with something so misfitting.as for MGS4 i think a 8 is fair, only because i like to play my games NOT watch them.
thats one thing that really drove me insane with MGS4 the cut scenes are very interesting and enjoyable dont get me wrong.
but the point is i dont have 4 hours to spend playing a game and barely progressing in the storyline.that and the gameplay was a little muddled up for me, its suppose to be a stealth game but there are next to no punishments if your seen.
not to mention its more like a action game than a stealth game.
i wish they would go back to the good old original on ps1, now that was a proper metal gear.story on MGS4 deserved a 10, but thats the only aspect.

What u don't get is that quite often review is paid so one version of the game looks better.
I don't take EDGE review of KZ2 personally - to be honest I didn't even played that game yet in Poland where I live there was similiar situation and MS $$ was the reason.

don't forget MGS4 8/10, not the only one but also the lowest.
