Cliffy B makes a huge gamble

Recently Cliffy B from epic games and director of the Gears of War series tweeted Naughty Dog saying, “Your Going Down”. I found this comment quite odd considering the fact that fanboy or not no one can deny that Uncharted 2 was a stellar game. Even if it wasn’t your particular type of game anyone could see how much production value went into crafting the GAME OF THE YEAR.

As someone who played through Gears of War at least 20 times I feel I know enough about the franchise to comment on the matter. In fact, I was at the midnight release for both games in the series. I read the comics and the books, and have several Gears of War t-shirts so I’d say I was a pretty big fan. I still firmly believe that Gears of War 1 was in fact a better game and visually superior to Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune. That’s just my opinion.

BUT…. Gears of War 2 was a major letdown. After all the gorgeous trailers and promises of “Bigger, Badder, and more Badass”, I was left wondering how this could happen. I hated the campaign so much I refused to play it more than once. I went from playing Gears of War 1 year round to Gears of War 2 gathering dust on my shelf. With a plot that seemed to be written by a four year old, and holes the size of the Grand Canyon it was in fact a stellar mess. Had it not been for the great horde mode there would have been absolutely no reason for me to ever return. I know, I know, it had multiplayer but who honestly wants to sit waiting for 30 minutes to find a good match? That’s no exaggeration either literally 30 minutes. Then you had to deal with all the glitches, oh yes I remember that multiplayer.

Uncharted 2 was a masterpiece and most critics would agree, Cliffy B is saying he’s going to be able to topple it? In my opinion maybe Epic games should find another competitor. Yes, I’ve watched the Gears of War 3 tech demo, but games rarely turn out to be as good as their tech demos. Case and point Gears of War 2 because nowhere in that game did I feel it was bigger, better, and more badass than the original in the series. While I was playing Uncharted 2 I knew that it was bigger, better, and more badass than virtually any other game I’d played.

Naughty Dog also continues to support its game in big ways; ways that I felt Epic did not. Uncharted 2’s online was and still is stellar in every possible way. Uncharted 2 is still the top rated exclusive on any platform( it shares the top spot with the awesome Mass Effect 2) and Gears of War 2 was the most overhyped broken game I’ve played besides Modern Warfare 2.

Cliffy B we all know you’re a sensationalist, but be careful what you say because I hope I speak for all gamers in general when I say that we’re not falling for another piece of crap like Gears of War 2 again, and if you start comparing your game with Uncharted 2 please make sure you have the tech to back it up.
