What will the Sony PSP2 console be like?

( 1 Vote ) While we are still waiting for the PSP2 to be announced by Sony, all we can do is eavesdrop for the latest rumors and hope that Sony won’t try to sustain the old PSP many years from now. Since Nintendo announced 3DS to come out in 2011, the chances are that Sony will hurry up and give the hand-held device market an alternative at least as good as the 3DS.

The one thing we know for sure is that the PSP2 will use the nVidia Tegra 2 chip, which is expected to have amazing characteristics, as the First Tegra Chip itself is unbelievably advanced in performance.

When we talk about PSP, we talk about gaming in the first hand. Running on the latest technology brought by Tegra 2 chip, PSP2 will definitely be compatible with the next-gen graphics. However, the PSP2 will be not just a gaming console but a full multimedia device, with its own network where its users will be able to download games, e-books, movies, or music. Since the device does not come with an UMD drive, it all relies on downloading.

Therefore this is indeed a very important feature for the PSP2. Still, there is one more thing people are expecting from Sony when it comes to media, and that is the ability to run HD movies. Because the Tegra 2 chip will surely be compatible with the HD format, the expectations are even higher.

As a personal opinion, I think the best display solution for PSP2 would be the latest AMOLED, but if it were to be realistic about it, Sony will probably go for the Super LCD. These being said, we are going to wait for the Sony’s official announcement that will confirm or not all our assumptions.
