Vanquish - Demo impressions (PS3/360)
- Wednesday, 01 September 2010
Finally, after like an eternity, SEGA's all out action-packed title that is Vanquish arrives, well the demo that is!
From the very beginning, you know you're in for something rather special. The slick futuristic presentation screens and menus just stand out and pull you in. Once you start the tutorial you will get a feel of the games sense of movement and control.
There are various amounts of moves, from melee attacks, boosting and evading maneuvers to covering behind walls and objects. A special evade move comes in the form of slowing down time, similar to that of Bayonetta, in which you are given a certain time to lock on and kill more enmies as you see fit. You see, while it has the types of movements you'd expect from the game, it's the smooth execution of them that really shines; your character will perform moves fast and smoothly, in fact at times a little too smooth! It's that good.

When the tutorial is completed, its time to hit the road! From the bat, you'd be thrown straight into the thick of the action. The graphics in Vanquish is extremely polished and detailed, watch in awe as big enemy ships fly above and let loose it's minions, set-pieces with exploding ships and masses of bullets being sprayed with flying bodies abound - all still flowing super smoothly, not a drop of framerate or a hint of slow down!.
Enemies attack from all angles, some manning gun-turrets and others will be controlling mech-units, these come in the form of ED-209 look-alikes, get rid of the controller, and mount the machine to take control of it too! Like most machines, it will take a certain amount of damage before it gives up the ghost, just unmount yourself and away you go again, great stuff!
When you've eventually fought your way through the first few waves of enemies and battled through the sectors, you will come to face a nice big old mechanized mech. You will have to use all your wits and skills that you've learnt in the process to beat this humongous beast. Get ready for some explosive actions along with some dramatic QTE's.
Vanquish's full release will be on 19th October, I can't wait!
What are you waiting for? Go download the demo and experience it all yourself! :)
