NPD Results Are In: PS3 Outsells Wii

( 1 Vote ) The September NPD results are in, and while there was little surprise on the PS3 vs. 360 front, would you believe that the PS3 actually did better than one particular system that has led the pack every month until now: the Nintendo Wii.

Here's the data:

As you can see, the PS3 did extremely well in the hardware side of things. What we weren't expecting was for it to beat the Wii by 30,000 units. That's the shocker, even with the price cut and new form factor the PS3 received. We was expecting for the Nintendo brand to do as well as before and take the top two. This could be a sign of things to come, too, as the PS3 blockbuster exclusive Uncharted 2 dropped in October.

Oh, and this is also despite the mail-in rebate offer that Microsoft tried to do.

As for software:

The only big release for September was Halo 3: ODST, and that could be the last huge title that the 360 has this year, which probably shows how they might want 2009 to just end. Of course, multiplats are selling more on the 360...for now, because of what we see on the hardware side.

But we were correct on our predictions. We just didn't know HOW right we ended up being.

EDIT: Yes, I am aware of the fail that was The "Rochester Xbox 360 Examiner" about these sales and trying to spin this into a 360 fanboy approved view of things. And yes, he WILL be called out here.
