Should We Take Professional Gamers Seriously?
- Friday, 07 August 2009
First of all, do you believe that professional gamers are gifted in the same way that professional athletes appear to be? How many of these players do you think are completely irreplaceable? Do they deserve all the money they win? Does it really take a special person with special skills to excel at a video games? Should they be paid money to do what the rest of us have to pay money for? Could anyone be playing these games this well if they only practiced?
If somehow this all is all new to you, you should look into organizations like World Cyber Games and CAL where gamers can make some serious money by playing seriously well. Also be aware of just how insanely popular StarCraft is in South Korea and how some of their players can be revered just as much as local television or sports stars. It's pretty intense over there.
So, should we take professional gamers seriously? I leave this as an open question to you, good visitor. Let's see some feedback!
