It's been a while since I played Sleeping Dogs as I got everything done, from collectibles to shrines, all the extra moves etc and managed to get Platinum in the main story of the game. With the release of the Year of the Snake DLC, it's nice to get back on to the streets of Hong Kong once again.
The DLC picks off from where the main story ended. Playing as the star character of the title, Wei Shen has now been demoted from his previous actions in the story and goes back to being a standard bobby back on the beat. Wei starts the day by dealing with minor infractions and the like until he comes across a bomb plot planned by a criminal named Master Chu, who is in fact the leader of a cult, the Cult of the Snake.
So, without further a do, it's your job to solve the case of the cultists, before the city is blown to pieces once midnight strikes. As you make your way through the game, missions range from the usual assortment of shooting, chasing down and arresting criminals as well as disposing of car bombs to doing side-missions for the general public.
The combat mechanics are the same as before with fast responses and movements, along with the ever-so-cool evasive moves. Being a copper, Wei is equipped with a taser and a Police stick (or an expandable baton for the official term). Once anyone is unfortunate enough to get in your way (via grappling), you can use the taser to give them a few shocks to the system. With the expandable baton in hand, a few hits from that, the enemy will be stunned, you can then go in and dish out more punishment.
With a variety of missions on offer as well as side-missions, the Year of the Snake manages to keep you entertained for more than a few hours - although more missions and such would of been nice (well, personally I can't get enough of it once I started playing again). The DLC also contains trophies/achievements, so that'll keep completists happy. Overall, it's a nice extension that's worthy of its purchase.
